Sandals vs Beaches resorts: which is right for you? (2026)

Quick Answer

Sandals is for couples only. Beaches is for families. That's the core difference — and for most people, it answers the question immediately. Both are true luxury all-inclusives owned by the same company, with similar quality, dining depth, and amenity levels. If you're a couple (including honeymoon or anniversary), Sandals wins. If you're bringing kids, Beaches is your brand.

Same company, different guest

Here's something most people don't realize when they start comparing these two brands: Sandals and Beaches are owned by the same company — Gordon "Butch" Stewart's Sandals Resorts International. They share the same operational DNA, the same commitment to luxury all-inclusive, and the same general quality standards.

The brands exist because different travelers need different things. When Sandals was launched in 1981, it was designed specifically for couples. The couples-only, adults-only model was intentional — and it worked. Beaches came later as a way to serve the family market under the same quality umbrella.

So when people ask me "Sandals or Beaches?" — the honest answer is usually: the question answers itself once you know who's traveling. Couple? Sandals. Family with kids? Beaches. The deeper comparison only matters once you've cleared that gate.

Mark's Take

I'm a Sandals Certified Specialist, and I've booked both brands for clients across the DFW area for years. The most common version of this question I get is from couples who aren't sure if Beaches is "nicer" than Sandals, or from families wondering if they're missing out by not going to Sandals. Short answer: you're not. Each brand is genuinely excellent at what it was designed for. The mistake is picking the wrong one for your situation.

What's included at each brand

Both brands are genuine luxury all-inclusives — the base experience at each is strong and substantially similar. Here's what you're actually getting.

What's included at both Sandals and Beaches

  • Unlimited dining at all specialty restaurants — no reservations, no cover charges
  • Unlimited premium top-shelf spirits, wine, and beer
  • All non-motorized watersports: kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing
  • Scuba diving for certified divers
  • Round-trip airport transfers
  • All gratuities and taxes
  • Nightly entertainment and live music
  • Fitness center access
  • Wi-Fi throughout the resort

What Beaches adds for families

  • Waterparks at all properties (slides, lazy rivers, splash zones)
  • Camp Sesame — Sesame Street character meet-and-greets, shows, and programming
  • Certified nannies (available as a paid upgrade at Turks & Caicos)
  • Xbox gaming lounges for teens
  • Kids buffet areas with child-friendly menus
  • Family-configuration rooms with double/twin beds and multi-bedroom villas
  • Child rates (ages 2–15) and free infant stays (ages 0–1)

What's NOT included at either brand

  • Spa treatments (these cost extra at both brands)
  • Motorized watersports (jet skis, speedboats, parasailing)
  • Off-resort excursions and tours
  • Scuba certification courses for non-certified divers

Mark's Pro Tip

One thing that surprises first-timers at both brands: airport transfers are included. At most Caribbean resorts, a round-trip private transfer runs $80–$150 per couple — at Sandals and Beaches, it's built in. Same with gratuities. When you add up what's actually covered versus a typical all-inclusive, the value gap narrows fast. Don't just compare the room rate — compare the total vacation cost.

Sandals: 17 resorts across 8 islands

One of Sandals' biggest advantages over Beaches is sheer variety. With 17 properties across Jamaica, St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua, Grenada, the Bahamas, Curacao, and St. Vincent & the Grenadines, couples have serious options for tailoring the trip to their preferences.

Jamaica alone has seven Sandals properties — giving couples everything from the ultra-modern Sandals Dunn's River to the beach-convenient Sandals Montego Bay (reopening December 18, 2026 after renovations). St. Lucia has three properties, including the flagship Sandals Grande St. Lucian, which consistently ranks among the best in the portfolio for scenery and beach quality.

For couples who want to go big, four Sandals properties offer overwater bungalows: Sandals South Coast (Jamaica), Sandals Royal Caribbean (Jamaica, reopening December 18, 2026), Sandals Grande St. Lucian (St. Lucia), and Sandals Saint Vincent.

The variety matters because not all Sandals properties are equal — some are newer, some are better suited for specific traveler types, and some islands fly better from DFW than others. That's exactly where having a Sandals specialist in your corner pays off.

Beaches: 2 resorts (with more coming)

This is where Beaches looks different from Sandals on paper. As of mid-2026, there are only two active Beaches Resorts:

  • Beaches Turks & Caicos — Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands
  • Beaches Negril — Negril, Jamaica

Beaches Ocho Rios in Jamaica closed permanently in May 2025. The good news is the brand is actively expanding. Beaches Turks & Caicos opened a brand-new Treasure Beach Village in March 2026 — adding a new lagoon-style infinity pool, three waterslides, the Starfish Cinema, new dining, and "ClearSky Villas" — making an already exceptional property even larger and more impressive.

Additional new properties in development include Beaches Runaway Bay (Jamaica) and Beaches Exuma (Bahamas), both expected to debut in late 2026 or 2027, and Beaches Saint Vincent & the Grenadines expected by late 2027.

The smaller portfolio isn't necessarily a negative — both existing properties are genuinely excellent. Beaches Turks & Caicos in particular is widely regarded as one of the best family all-inclusive resorts in the world, full stop.

Mark's Take

If you're a Texas family considering Beaches, I'll be upfront: flights to Turks & Caicos from DFW are a bit more involved than Jamaica routes, but the destination is stunning — Grace Bay Beach is legitimately one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Beaches Negril is easier to get to with direct Jamaica flights, and Negril's Seven Mile Beach is no slouch. Your family will be happy at either one. The question is usually whether the Turks price premium is worth it to you — and for a lot of families, the answer is yes.

Pricing: what to actually expect

Both brands price similarly at the base level, but the total trip cost can look very different depending on your party size.

Sandals pricing

Sandals prices per adult per night. Entry-level rooms start around $200–$250 per person per night; mid-range rooms run $300–$400 per person per night; premium suites and butler rooms push $400–$600+ per person per night. Overwater bungalows start at $1,100+ per person per night. For a couple, that means entry-level trips might run $2,800–$3,500 for a 7-night stay at the room cost alone, before flights.

Beaches pricing

Beaches prices adults (16+) at a similar rate to Sandals — roughly $200–$250+ per adult per night for entry-level. Children ages 2–15 pay a child rate (approximately $61/night as of 2026). Infants under 2 stay free. So a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids) might see a 7-night stay priced around $3,500–$4,500 at entry level before flights — more than a couple at Sandals, but with the kids covered in the experience.

The promotions factor

Both Sandals and Beaches run regular promotions — free room upgrades, free nights, spa credits, and dining credits are common. These promotions can meaningfully change the value equation. The best deals tend to appear around Black Friday, New Year, and a handful of other windows throughout the year. Booking through a certified specialist means those promotions get applied — and sometimes stacked.

Who wins for each traveler type

Traveler type Winner Why
Honeymoon couple Sandals Romantic atmosphere, overwater bungalows, couples-only environment
Anniversary couple Sandals All dining is couples-focused, no kids, full romantic experience
Family with young kids Beaches Waterparks, Sesame Street characters, family rooms, nannies
Family with teenagers Beaches Xbox lounges, waterparks, teen-friendly dining and entertainment
Multi-generational family Beaches Multi-bedroom villas, accommodates grandparents through toddlers
Solo traveler Beaches Sandals doesn't allow singles; Beaches does (with single supplement)
Adults-only group friends trip Beaches Sandals is couples-only; Beaches accepts friend groups and singles

Bottom line

The Sandals vs. Beaches debate is actually simpler than it sounds once you know the rules: Sandals is couples-only. Beaches is everyone else. Both deliver a genuinely excellent luxury all-inclusive experience — the same ownership, the same operational standards, the same commitment to what's included. The difference is the environment they create and the guest they're built for.

If you're a couple — especially for a honeymoon or anniversary — Sandals is the right call. The atmosphere, the room configurations, the dining setup, the overwater bungalows — it was all designed for two people who want to feel like the world's been filtered down to just them. Beaches can't match that because it wasn't built for it.

If you're bringing kids or traveling as a mixed group, Beaches is the answer — and Beaches Turks & Caicos in particular is one of the best family resorts anywhere in the Caribbean. The waterparks, Sesame Street programming, and newly expanded Treasure Beach Village make it a genuinely impressive property for families.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Sandals and Beaches resorts?

The core difference is who can stay there. Sandals is adults-only and couples-only — every guest must be part of a couple. Beaches is the family-friendly sister brand that welcomes kids, families, and groups. Both are luxury all-inclusive resorts with similar quality standards, dining, and amenities. The main choice is really couples vs. families.

Can singles stay at Sandals or Beaches?

Singles cannot stay at Sandals — it's couples-only. Beaches Resorts does accept solo travelers. If you're a single looking at this category of resort, Beaches is your option, though you'll pay a single supplement.

Is Beaches more expensive than Sandals?

Not necessarily — the base per-adult rate is similar at both brands, starting around $200–$250 per adult per night for entry-level rooms. The difference is that Beaches charges a separate rate for children (roughly $61/night for ages 2–15), while infants stay free. The overall trip cost at Beaches can be higher simply because you're pricing out more people.

How many Beaches resorts are there?

As of 2026, there are two active Beaches Resorts: Beaches Turks & Caicos (Providenciales) and Beaches Negril (Jamaica). Beaches Ocho Rios closed in May 2025. New properties are in development in Runaway Bay (Jamaica), Exuma (Bahamas), and Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, with expected openings in 2026–2027.

Which is better for a honeymoon — Sandals or Beaches?

Sandals, and it's not close. Sandals was built specifically for couples — the atmosphere, the dining, the room categories, the butler suites, the overwater bungalows — all of it is designed for two people who want to feel like the only people on the island. Beaches is a great resort brand, but the family-focused environment isn't what most couples want for a honeymoon.

What is included at Beaches Resorts?

Beaches is a true all-inclusive: all meals at multiple specialty restaurants, unlimited premium drinks, non-motorized watersports, waterpark access, kids clubs, Sesame Street character experiences, airport transfers, tips, and taxes are all included. Xbox gaming lounges are part of the package for teens. Spa services and motorized watersports cost extra.
